A modern icon - now in Waterproof!
Gatherer brings innovation to a classic plains mukluk silhouette. The streamlined design, fleece-lined 15-inch full grain leather shaft, and sheepskin-lined footbed make her extremely warm and very wearable. But it's the rich details—from a shaft-top drawstring to the lovely grasses hand-etched into the rich leather—that will make your heart sing year after year. This true classic is rated to -32C.
Foot Lining: Sheepskin Shearling
Height: 15"
Materials: Grain Leather
Sole: Glacier Grip Tipi Sole
Shaft Circumference: 17"
Temperature Rating: up to -25F
(in active use)
Waterproof: Yes
Some of our mukluks and natural-soled moccasins are not built on a traditional foot last (the solid form on which most shoes are molded), so there is no "left" or "right" foot. This method has been used on Indigenous footwear for thousands of years. It's completely natural for the shoes to feel slightly "off" or awkward when new, but over time the natural materials will form to your foot and allow you to have a completely custom fit.
The AuthenTEC Waterproof System lets you take on winter in style with boots crafted with three layers of waterproof sealant, rich waterproof leather and suede and a full sheepskin footbed that keeps you dry and cozy all day.
Manitobah conducts rigorous waterproof and temperature testing using a minimum 50,000 flex standard.
Use a silicone-based leather/suede protector. Do not spray fur, as it contains natural protective oils. We offer a protecting spray as part of our recommended Care Kit.
Leather can be cleaned using a gentle soap and soft brush. For salt, wipe down with a damp cloth. Even if they have been sprayed, salt is corrosive and can cause damage.
Once wet, allow your footwear to dry naturally.
Never pull fur when putting on or removing boot, fur sheds over time and frequent friction will cause the fur to shed much faster. Cross laces over before tightening to avoid tearing leather eyeholes.
When ready to store them for the season you should clean them, allow them to dry and then pack them away in a sealed container away from heat, moisture and pets (a plastic storage tote works great.) You can also use a pool noodle or something similar in the shaft to keep them upright during storage.
We make our moccasins and mukluks for everyone. By purchasing from us, you are participating in cultural appreciation, not cultural appropriation. When you purchase from Manitobah, you are directly supporting Indigenous people and celebrating Indigenous culture in an authentic, meaningful way that supports us in our vision to create positive impact in Indigenous communities.
Truly the best winter boots EVER!! They are beautiful, super warm, waterproof and comfortable!
So I am not that well off and I’m a vegetarian from Texas, so it was difficult for me to come to terms, after living above the 49th parallel for nearly five years, with the fact that lasting winter boots at my price point would be made of animal products.
As soon as I accepted this, i knew that the best, most ethical leather winter boot producers would be Indigenous. That’s a no-brainer to me. But I didn’t take the choice lightly.
As an Autistic person, I read reviews for what the product would be like as a sensory experience. WOWZ. These remind me more of walking everywhere barefoot everywhere (except in places of business) on the warm Texas earth more than they feel like walking in insulated winter boots. BUT THEY’RE TOASTY, TOO!!!
I also read a lot of reviews saying that the waterproofing only lasted one season. I suppose it’s because I didn’t grow up with road salt? That stuff is corrosive. I have only worn my boots out a few times, but I spent some time cleaning off the road salt and conditioning them today and it’s apparent to me already that anyone complaining about that hasn’t been caring for the animal whose life was taken to keep them warm.
My brain isn’t the best with tedious stuff and I can mysteriously get chocolate on my forehead by just eating a KitKat bar (better here btw), so traditional leather conditioners weren’t in the cards for me, even if they weren’t (niche market) VEGETARIAN leather conditioners.
But I found one made of just pine oils and…
I’ve been trying them out for a month or so, that way I can give an honest review, I love the original mukluk boots with the fur ***** hanging on the sides so I purchased these to try them out, everyone always tells me it looks like I’m wearing them backwards like the left on right and right on left because they look awkward. And I went up a size I’m usually an 8 and bought a 9 so I can wear thick socks and I’m pregnant and when I go into labor my feet will swell a little in the winter, however these are tighter than my 8 and haven’t loosened up much after wearing and breaking in. Just overall I’m not in love with these for the price I expected better. I did buy the original ones too but haven’t worn those in yet.
Amazing and beautiful work. These boots are INSANELY warm and insulated. The artistry and detail are stunning and I could not be more pleased with these boots. The color, the design, the shape and feel. #obsessed
I was very concerned these would not fit due to my extra wide feet. I ordered a size up than what I normally wear to account for double socks and extra liners. I haven't used the extra liners yet since it hasn't been cold enough. My feet have been comfortable and for the first time EVER not painfully squished and toasty warm. I have been able to do my daily walks and hikes with toasty toes. Very pleased. My only concern is that the bottoms won't hold up to the amount of miles I put in.

To make our brand more accessible, to support our social impact initiatives, and to allow us to compete with other global fashion brands, we produce our products in international ethical partner factories. Our factory partners that support our growing product line go through an in-depth 3rd party inspection and internal Social Compliance Audit. These high standards are continually monitored and respected. We are proud of our manufacturing policies and our ability to build capacity globally. We believe that our success as an Indigenous business has been due to our willingness to walk forward while honouring our past.
Manitobah Mukluks makes a variety of products that match Canada's diverse climates. We offer select styles of adult mukluks that are waterproof. Those styles are tagged online as waterproof and can be seen here.
Both styles of children's mukluks are waterproof. They have been treated with our AuthenTEC waterproofing system; treated hide and an internal flexible coating that is inspired by pine pitch and spruce gum. Manitobah conducts rigorous waterproof and temperature testing using a minimum 50,000 flex standard.
The rest of the adult mukluks are constructed with natural suede and leather which are not sealed and not considered waterproof. We recommend treating them with a leather/suede protector to help with water resistance and general protection. All of our MUKLUKS are insulated with sheepskin footbeds and most are constructed with untreated suede which is porous (and not considered waterproof). These natural materials need to breathe in order to be effective in extreme cold. Indigenous people have been surviving in the coldest climates for thousands of years using this very wisdom.

Our sheepskin-lined mukluks are considered one of the warmest winter boots for northern winters and are rated down to -32 degrees Celsius. Partnering with Vibram has also allowed us to design a sole that allows your foot to bend. Research indicates that flexible soles promote proper foot movement and blood circulation to your toes. This means that in cold dry weather, our mukluks will allow your feet to stay warmer than almost anything on the market.
